Haryana signs MoU with Maryland, USA

NEW DELHI: Haryana Government and Prince George’s County of Maryland of USA Saturday signed an Memorandum of Understanding for developing and providing support for working models of cooperation of trade alliances in the specific areas of clean and renewable sources of energy.
The MoU was signed by Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Office of the County Executive, Mr David J. Byrd and Haryana Director of Industries and Commerce Department, D.R.Dhingra in the presence of Haryana Governor, Dr A.R.Kidwai, Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Finance Minister, Mr Birender Singh in New Delhi today.
The MoU would especially cover the areas of production of solar cells, bio-technology, nano-technology and super computers, pharmaceuticals, testing and development of new drugs, manufacturing of automobile parts, electronic, scientific and medical instruments, production of leather goods, textiles, hosiery and silk products, setting up of food processing industries, production of hybrid seeds and plant material, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) related to banking and insurance, business management and economic.
While speaking on the occasion, the Dr A.R.Kidwai said tHat with the execution of the MoU, a new era of economic development would usher in the Prince George’s County of Maryland and Haryana State. He said that to achieve the rapid industrialisation and development of the State, Haryana Government was emphasising on ‘personal contacts’ with the potential investors which would result in ‘real development’ in the times to come.
While welcoming the ten-member high-level business delegation of Prince George’s County of Maryland of USA headed by Mr David J. Byrd, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda described Haryana as the fastest developing State and added that it has the highest per capita income amongst bigger States in the country. He expressed the hope that the signing of the MoU would benefit both States and countries in the electronics and BPO sectors. He said that the implementation of MoU would further strengthen the
ties between the two States and two countries.
He said that the State Government was providing highest priority to the development of infrastructure for industrial development and an Industrial Model Township in Manesar in Gurgaon district had already been set up in the State. He said that four more such Industrial Model Townships were being set up at Faridabad, Kharkhoda, Ambala and Rohtak.He said that with the availability of excellent infrastructure required for industrial development and investors friendly atmosphere, Haryana has become an ideal destination for both domestic and foreign investors in India.
Haryana’s Finance Minister, Mr Birender Singh said that Haryana was on the fast track of development and had already achieved 10.5 per cent growth rate against the national GDP growth of 9.2 per cent. He said that with the signing of the MoU, Haryana would get latest technology and know-how in the field of agriculture and it would help in making Haryana number one State in the country.He said that the MoU would felicitate the exchange of knowledge and students from one country to another. He said that Haryana would also get good syllabus for improving the skills of our youngsters and also enrich their experiences.
The members of business delegation of Prince George’s County of Maryland, who were present on the occasion included Ms Patricia Hayes-Parker, Ms Elizabeth Crittenden, Mr Elisha B.Pulivarti, Dr Granville Sawyer Jr, Dr R.S.Venkatachalam, Mr Keith Moore, Mr Subu Kota and Mr Krishna Banaudha.
The Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Mr M.L.Tayal, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Industries and Information Technology Mr P.K.Chaudhery, Haryana’s Resident Commissioner Mr P.K.Mahapatra, Vice Chancellor of Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Dr R.S.Dhankar and the Vice Chancellor of Guru Jhambeshwar University, Hisar Dr R.P.Bajpai were also present on the occasion.
