KHATKAR KALAN(Nawanshehar) :Paying tribute to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh on his 75 th martyrdom day, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Friday announced to set up 'Adarsh School' in his native village Khatkar Kalan as a part of an ambitious programme to open such schools in every block of the state for the economically poor and bright students in line with the SAD-BJP manifesto.


Addressing a mammoth gathering here at a state level function organized to observe martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, Badal paid homage to these great sons of India who made supreme sacrifices to secure freedom for us. He said that such occasions should be observed with great reverence and sanctity to imbibe the spirit of patriotism and nationalism among our future generation.    

He called upon both the Government and the society to play a pro-active role to give due recognition to the selfless sacrifices of the freedom fighters by observing such occasions in a true patriotic spirit. He said that Punjabis had inherited the spirit of self-sacrifice by birth since time immemorial with the supreme sacrifices of Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji, Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji and Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji who laid down their lives for the cause of righteousness and informed even more than 75 percent amongst the freedom fighters who were either executed or imprisoned were also Punjabis.   

Expressing gratitude to the people of Doaba for giving clear mandate in the favour of SAD-BJP alliance by capturing 22 out of total 27 seats, Badal said that his government was committed for the overall development of the state and welfare of all sections of the society to cherish the aspirations and fulfill the dreams of the great martyrs like Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Lala Lajpat Rai, Kartar Singh Sarabha and Udham Singh.   

The Chief Minister mentioned that the Punjab Government would commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh on September   27 this year by organizing a mega State level function.  He said that the State Government had already embarked upon an ambitious programme to organize a series of seminars besides publishing literature on the life and works of our great martyrs to perpetuate their legacy and inculcate the spirit of nationalism and patriotism amongst our younger generation.     

Responding to the local issues raised by the Mohan Lal, Nand Lal, Sarwan Singh and Jatinder Singh Kariha MLAs from Banga, Balachaur, Phillaur and Nawanshahar,Badal announced to immediately provide 24 hour uninterrupted power supply to the local dispensary in the name of the father of Shaheed Bhagat Singh within two days and instructed the concerned officer of PSEB to comply with the orders.  He also announced to immediately start the bus service on the Rahon-Machiwara Bridge to facilitate the people of the area and announced a grant of Rs.1 crore for the up-gradation of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Senior Secondary School to develop it under the scheme of Adarsh School.   Deputy Speaker Lok Sabha, Charanjit Singh Atwal also announced a grant of Rs.50 lakhs for the school. Badal also announced to upgrade the ITI Nawan Shahar on the modern lines to equip the students with the latest vocational courses.   

In his tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on their martyrdom day, Local Government Minister Manoranjan Kalia said that SAD-BJP Government was determined to translate the dreams of great martyrs into reality who laid down their lives for their motherland.   

Paying homage to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on their martyrdom day, Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal said that Indian History was replete with the saga of numerous sacrifices made by the unsung heroes during the national freedom struggle but we had a short lived memory and seldom remember our freedom fighters who made unprecedented and unparallel sacrifices for achieving independence.  "It is the pious duty of all of us to nurture the feeling of nationalism amongst our youth through the commemoration of such occasions in a befitting manner by paying homage to the great martyrs and patriots who made selfless sacrifices and made India free from the foreign yoke", he said.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister honoured the 13 family members of the Shaheed of Bhagat Singh and 13 freedom fighters with a momentous and shawl.

Prominent amongst others who spoke on the occasion included Jails, tourism and Culture Affairs Minister Hira Singh Gabria, SGPC General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, District President SAD Nawanshahr Mohinder Singh Hussainpuri.   Thousands of party workers and senior Akali leaders including Kuldip Singh Wadala also present on the occasion
