FATEHGARH SAHIB: BJP leader and Member Parliament Navjot Singh Sidhu, better known as laughter man has got a flak from SAD-BJP workers of Mandi Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib district.
The workers have complained against him to SAD president and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for 'ignoring' the senior leaders of alliance during his recent Mandi Gobindgarh visit. He reportedly visisted the town without informing local party unit and then graced the function organised by an educationinst who has Congress leaning. Sources said that local BJP leaders had also apprised senior BJP leadership of the state about Sidhu's actions and demanded stern action against Sidhu. A delegation of BJP and SAD leaders of Mandi Gobindgarh had recently met Badal at his Chandigarh residence. A senior BJP leader, who was also part of the delegation while pleading anonymity said that during their meeting with Badal first all members congratulated Badal for formation of SAD-BJP government in the state. He said that after discussing routine issues , the delegation members made a serious complaint against Navjot Sidhu, who was also star campaigner of the alliance during recent held Punjab Assembly elections. He said that Badal patiently listened to the delegation members who stated that Sidhu recently came to Mandi Gobindgarh on the invitation of a Mandi Gobindgarh based education institute and interacted with local industrialists. Sidhu did not take senior BJP and SAD leaders in confidence before participating in interaction with industrialists. When contacted Dharampal Rao, District Fatehgarh Sahib BJP president on his mobile, he confirmed that a delegation of senior BJP and SAD leaders met Badal at his residence in Chandigarh. He said that however, he was not part of this delegation due to some reasons. He said that local BJP unit has not prior information about Sidhu's Mandi Gobindgarh visit. He said that Sidhu should have taken local BJP leader into confidence before attending a function in the education institute of a person, who is related with Congress. He said that there is resentment among the local BJP leadership over this act of Sidhu. A senior Akali leader, who also accompanied the delegation while pleading anonymity said that personality like Sidhu should desist such activities, which lowers prestige of SAD-BJP alliance in eyes of people. Avinash Rai Khanna, BJP state president was not available for comments despite repeated attempts. It may be mentioned here that during the meeting with Sidhu, industrialists apprised the MP of various problems faced by trade and industry and Sidhu assured them to take up their problems at appropriate level. |
