ROPAR: In what is stated to be the first endevour of its kind in the state, the Ambuja Cement Foundation, Ropar has established a ‘Network of HIV positive persons’ in collaboration with Punjab State AIDS Control Society.
Disclosing this during a press conference here Thursday Ambuja Cement Foundation Director V. K. Jain and Regional Programme coordinator of the foundation Vishal Bhardwaj said adding that total 40 HIV positive persons were detected so far in the district through under a project is named as ‘Composite Target Intervention Project’ (CTIP) and the network of 12 HIV positive persons including 10 women and 2 men had been established under the project.
They said the main objective of this network, which had been got registered as ‘Ropar Network of HIV positive persons’,was to empower these persons by giving a common platform where they can share their problem and experiences.
They said the members of this network meet twice in every month at Anandpur Sahib and in future they had the plan to rehabilitate themselves through this network.
They said that there was a need for stop the social exploitation and ostracism of the HIV infected women and their children.
Mohinder Singh Rana, the manager of CTIP project informed about the process of this intervention and also how did they approach these persons to start this network.
The members of network of HIV positive persons shared their experiences and sufferings with the media persons and stressed the need for creating awareness about HIV and AIDS.
