Rallies, seminar marks May Day in Punjab Print E-mail

NAWANSHEHAR/FATEHGARH SAHIB: Rallies and blood donation camps marked the Labour Day celebrations in the district today. Hundreds of brick kiln workers, PWD and Forest Department employees, teachers and PUNSUP employees under the aegis of Indian Federation of Trade Unions participated in the rally held here at Government School playground.

A call was given to the workers to unite and launch concerted struggles to safeguard their interests which were in danger at the hands of imperialist forces who were bent upon crushing them through the policies of liberalisation and globalisation. The importance of the Day has increased in view of fresh onslaughts on their rights, the workers were told. Kulwinder Singh Wurraich, Parkash Ram Rassoolpuri, Paramjit Singh Dehal, among others addressed the workers.
 
Various employees' unions under the banner of Trade Union Council also hoisted flag and held rally at Punjab Roadways Depot. Council's president Purshotam Rana, besides other leaders including Swatantra Kumar, Kapur Jadli, Balvir Jadla, Ram Singh Nurpuri and Karnail Singh addressed the workers. A camp was also organised in association with the BDC and 31 units of blood collected

FATEHGARH SAHIB: A function was held at Mandi Gobindgarh to observe May Day. A seminar was held at Mandi Gobindgarh which was presided over by Baljinder Singh, Additional Civil Judge(senior division), Amloh.  The seminar was held to create awareness among labourers.

Varinder Sandhu, Assistant District Attorney (Legal Services), Fatehgarh Sahib; D.C. Bansal, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib; Balwinder Singh Rangi, Labour Inspector, Mandi Gobindgarh also participated in the seminar.
