PPCB Chairman tells Punjab industry to help control pollution Print E-mail

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) Chairman Mr. Yogesh Goel has appealed the industrialists to adopt effective pollution control measures and make compliances as required under the various environment laws.

In a press note released here, a spokesman of the PPCB said that the Chairman has during an interaction at Dera Bassi on Friday told the industries that the Punjab Government is committed to industrial growth of the State but at the same time it is utmost essential that cleanness of the environment should be taken care of. He assured that the fast clearances from the environment angle should be granted in a time bound manner. He clarified that no relaxation can be given to the industries who fail to comply with the provisions of the Hazardous Waste (Management & Handling) Rules-1989. He informed that the PPCB has already adopted the courier service for the delivery of Dak to encourage the better facility to the entrepreneurs.

The Chairman further informed that a common facility for disposal of hazardous waste would be commenced by the end of July, 2007. While discussing the environmental related problems, it was decided that such interact meetings shall be held periodically. The Chairman welcomed the suggestions put forth by the industries and assured them to consider these sympathetically.  

 During the meeting the representatives of the industries suggested various measures to cut down the unnecessary delay in granting clearances. They said that the approach of the PPCB should be industry-friendly. It was also emphasized that the role of PPCB should also be advisory along with regulatory so that the pollution control system should be compatible to the norms.
