Sanam, Tushar move up; Vijayant and Kinshuk bow out Print E-mail

CHANDIGARH: Two current Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association trainees and  wild card entrants Vijayant Malik and Kinshuk Sharma bowed out but its former trainees Tushar Liberhan and Sanam Singh advanced to the singles second round of the $ 10,000+Hospitality SAIL ITF Men's Futures at the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10 here Monday.

Sanam Singh, with a ranking of 1020th, ended the challenge of the best CLTA bet  Vijayant Malik 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-2 in a first-round tussle in two hours and 15 minutes on Centre Court Number 1. Firing with power, Navdeep Singh outplayed inexperienced but upcoming Kinshuk Sharma in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

Tushar Liberhan, who got his tennis lessons at the CLTA Stadium before shifting to Delhi for more competitive tennis, moved up to second round with a straight sets 6-2, 6-3 triumph in 75 minutes.
 
Trailing by one set, fourth seeded Vijay Kannan staged a fine rally to end aspirations of wild card Srirambalaji Narayanaswamy by 0-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 in the first round singles match. 
Vinod Sridhar, 1106th, took 65 minutes to dispose of the challenge of  916th ranked Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan 6-3, 6-3 on Court Number 4. 
 
Srirambalaji Narayanaswamy displayed excellent form in the first set which he won   without dropping a single game. He got breaks in the second, fourth and sixth games. Kannan then raised his game and won the second set via tie-breaker 7-6 (4). In this set, Narayanaswamy broke Kannan  in the seventh game to lead 4-3. However, Kannan hit back in the next game to level the score 4-all.
 
In an action-filled the third and deciding set the players exchanged breaks in the fourth and fifth games. Kannan retained his serve to make it 5-4 and broke his opponent in the 10th game to win the point, the set and the match.

Sanam displayed his maturity and good ground strokes, excellent returns, fine netplay and serve. He executed a variety of strokes to down lanky and talented Vijayant Malik. Both executed good ground strokes in the match. The highlight of this set was a record number of 30 points played in the 12th game with Sanam serving to make it 6-all. In the ensuing tie-breaker, Vijayant won 7-5 to take 1-0 lead.

After exchanging breaks in the first two games, Sanam settled down. He got the vital breakthrough in the fourth game to gain 3-1 and with his serve to follow he made it 4-1. Sanam won the set at 6-3. One  set all, Sanam raced to a 4-0 lead with breaks in the first and third games and won by 6-2.
