Nihang Poohla attacked Chandigarh Gurdwara to take possession

CHANDIGARH: The notorious Nihang leader Ajit Singh poohla on Thursday attacked Gurdwara Sach Khand in sector 39 of Chandigarh to take forcible possession with the help of armed accomplices.

A bloody clash took place between supporters of Poohla and Gurdawara management committee that left half dozen people injured. The Chandigarh police has arrested 11 people including a constable of Punjab police helping Poohla to grab the shrine.

Poohla who is facing several cases of murder, tresspassing and intimidation is patronised by a section of Punjab police. The present Director of Punjab Vigilance Bureau Sumesh Singh Saini had reportedly helped Poohla in 1991 being SSP of Chandigarh to get the land for Gurdawara here in return to help extended by poohla to eliminate top Sikh militants. Poohla enjoyed the confidence of the then Punjab DGP K.P.S.Gill. He is also considered close to ruling family in Punjab. 

He was dethrone from the shrine during Congress rule in Punjab when he was arrested in a murder case. The Chandigarh police during a rad in the shrine had recovered bottles of liquor, and porn material from the rooms occupied by poohla's supporters.

One of Poohla's supporters, Karnail Singh, was seriously injured in the attack. The injured were rushed to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here.

The gurdwara was earlier managed by Poohla's men but they were forcibly evicted two years ago by members of Anti Poohla action committee.
