CHANDIGARH: A 30 year old manimajra resident has strangulated his 26 year old wife in the suspicion that she is having illicit relations with somebody else.

The  accused Sham Sunder who killed his wife late last night was arrested on Thursday and is booked under section 302 of the IPC.

The accused is  survived by their nine-year-old daughter Simran. The police also said that the accused has confessed to his crime and said that he has no regrets and murdered his wife because she had illicit relations with another man.

The couple originally hails from Allahabad and recently shifted to Chandigarh.

In yet another case a man who was called for interrogation by the Manimajra police  committed suicide by jumping from first floor of police station on Wednesday evening.

The deceased  Anil Kumar succumbed to injuries in the PGI Chandigarh. According to the police, the victim was taken to the Mani Majra Police Station following a complaint by a woman that he was loitering in the area and has been involved in theft cases.

The family of the victim, however alleged that Anil Kumar was tortured in police custody which forced him to take the extreme step right at the police station. Police has registered a case.
