CHANDIGARH: Punjab Government has been finding the middle path to decide fee structure of medical colleges of management seats which are falling vacant after the merger of NRI seats to the general quota. 

The Punjab chief Minster Parkash Singh Badal said here Thursday that they were not against the medical students but also cant to allow the institutes to close down for the want of funds. He indicated hike in fees for medical courses.

He was addressing a press conference soon after the laying the foundation stone of 30 bed hospital in Tripuri area here this evening. He was accompanied by Health and family welfare minister Laxami Kanta Chawla.

It is learnt that Punjab Government has deleted the two categories of NRI quota to avoid contempt in Punjab and Haryana High court. Now only wards/children of purely NRIs can get seats in medical colleges in Punjab, earlier Indian citizen can also avail this facility to deposit the equal amount of $75000 in Indian currency.

The Medical education ministry of Punjab has called the meeting of private colleges on July 23 to come with proposals of fee structure with changed scenario. 

Regarding heath services in Punjab Badal said that No further Privatisation will be done in Punjab. 

Badal hoped that centre will review its decision for not giving financial aid to Punjab medical institute to be come up in Jalandhar. He said that he will meet Prime Minster Dr. Manmohan Singh in this regard.
