ROPAR: Punjab police have registered two cases against seven contractual workers of Ropar Thermal Plant for trying to damage the equipment of thermal plant and hamper the generation during strike.
Ropar Thermal plant authorities have lodged a complaint with police against contract workers who were trying to sabotage the generation while on strike. The contract workers were on four days strike since Monday for pay parity with regular workers. According to official sources the contractor workers removed fishplates of the railway line in the coal plant area and other group of workers tried to trip the unit number 1,4,5 and 6 with in a span of half an hour. The Air Pre-heater of unit No. 1 tripped but was saved by the alertness of the staff working in shifts. Similarly the coal mills feeders of unit No. 4 5 and 6 were switched off. Ropar thermal plant has six units of 210 MW each and supplying 300 lakh units daily. The negotiations held between plant authorities, contract workers union and labour department failed last Friday and the strike was declared illegal. RK Tewari President of contract workers union told Punjab Newsline that the false cases had been registered by the plant authorities and had manipulated the photographs of the sabotage at the railway line. He said that workers had never indulged in such practices. |
