CHANDIGARH: Punjab Director General of Police(DGP) would preside over a meeting on 10th of every month for appraisal of performance of all SSP's on the vital issues of crime prevention & detention besides actions taken for curbing drug smuggling in their areas. 
  
This was announced by  DGP  NPS Aulakh while presiding over a high level review meeting of all the ADGPs, IGs Zonal, DIGs Ranges and SSsP held here today. While expressing  satisfaction over handling of law and order situation in most of the cases in the state in the recent past,  Aulakh cautioned them to remain more vigilant in the future. He directed all the SSsP to ensure monthly review of the performance of their field officers and replace the inefficient officials immediately from the important assignments.
  
The Police chief further asked for performance audit as it was noticed that officers usually takes security personnel attached to them from their previous assignment  to new places thereby creating shortage of manpower. He urged them to withdraw maximum personal security officials to enhance their reserve strength required for meeting the emergencies.
  
Stressing on the need of computerisation, of police stations the DGP urged the IGs Zonal & DIGs Range to personally ensure the completion of ongoing projects of computerisation in the police stations at the earliest so that desired benefits of technology advancement could be achieved in prevention and detention of crime.
  
He also stressed on the need for personal monitoring by the SSP's of Assured Career Progression (ACP) Scheme for other ranks and non gazetted officers and fixation of seniority of NGOs to clear the backlog of promotions for these categories to encourage them to work more efficiently & diligently. He also directed the SSsP of five districts namely Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda and Patiala to send detailed reports regarding separation of Law & Order and investigation.
  
Later on Rohit Baluja, President, Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) made a detailed presentation titled Safety Traffic Management and  Hardeep Singh Dhillon, IG (Traffic) made a presentation namely Managing Traffic Formidable challenge by showing alarming figures of casualties as well as numbers seriously injured people, increasing density of vehicles on the state roads and challenges for future in traffic management.
  
While appreciating the presentations, the DGP underlined the need to strictly enforce traffic rules in the state to ensure safety while moving on the road and creation of training facilities at district levels.
  
He asked the other ranges to follow Ludhiana range in ensuring setting up of Traffic Clubs in educational institutions so that the potential drivers could be prepared and motivated for safe driving from the very beginning.
