PATIALA: Rural Doctors working in the rural areas of Punjab under Zila Parishads bothmedical and veterinary, under the banner of Rural Medical Services Association (RMSA) Punjab and Punjab State Veterinary Doctors Association Punjab have joined hands against the order of the state government letter dated 28th June, 2007.
In a high level meeting held here Monday Dr. Aslam Parvez State President of RMSA Punjab alleged that the qualified doctors are being discriminated against as compared to other govt.departments. While the state of health care in rural area is in tatters, the uncertain future coupled with other problems faced by rural doctors posted in the state are further affecting the quality of medical services in rural areas and forcing the doctors to resort to agitational path . Dr. Abdul Mazid State President of PSVDA alleged that the letter dated 28th June 2007 has further increased the insecurity among the doctors who are already leaving the jobs throughout the State due to the irresponsible behaviour of the government. 150 Medical Doctors and more than 50 veterinary doctors have already left the jobs. He alleged that the Govt. is saying that the pay structure given to service providers is at par with entry of a Regular doctors, but the fact is this the salary is fixed for three years without any increment and also other in-service benefits to the rural doctors have been denied. On this occasion Rishi Bhardwaj State Geneneral secretary of RMSA said that the denial of maternity leave to lady doctors is violation of human rights and the contract system is responsible for the conflict between doctors and their paramedical staff & only the regularization of the jobs can be the solution to all the problems. Doctor leaders further alleged that the dispensaries are handed over to the non technical deptt. & the in coordination between the veterinary medical and Rural Development Departments is causing great harassment to them. The denial of benefits of PG. quota to medical doctors will create shortage of Post Graduate Doctors in rural areas which will affect the rural health in coming days . They demanded that the jobs be regularized soon and the proper pay structure and other benefits to be given to doctors and their paramedical staff. |
