HC upholds Punjab govt notification on PGET Print E-mail

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab & Haryana High Court Tuesday upheld the deletion of the  categories III and IV of clause 39 from the PGET Notification issued by the Punjab Government.

A spokesman of Punjab Medical Education and Research Department said Tueday that the Punjab Government had removed Category III and Category IV from Clause 39 of the notifications pertaining to admission to under graduate as well as postgraduate degree and diploma medical courses for the session 2007. Category III refers to "NRI-sponsored candidates" and Category IV refers to "Indians who were ready to pay in foreign currency (US dollars)".

The spokesman said that CWP No. 10097 of 2007 regarding deletion of these categories came up for final argument today. Two to Three similar writ petitions were also listed for hearing with this petition. After hearing the detailed arguments by Sh. Suvir Sehgal, Additional Advocate Genral Punjab and others, the Division Bench disposed of the present writ petition. All other similar writ petitions listed today were also dismissed. Hence the deletion of the clauses III and IV from the PGET/PMET Notification by the Government are upheld by the Hon'ble Punjab and Haryana High Court .
