CHANDIGARH: A delegation from George Washington University (U.S.A.) Tuesday visited Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak to explore possibilities of setting up a joint research centre in frontier areas of Bio-informatics and Systems Biology and work-out possibilities of joint studies and research.

MDU Vice-Chancellor R.S. Dhankar welcomed the foreign delegation and threw light on background of this meeting. Notably, the ground work for collaborative research was done during Vice-Chancellor's visit to leading Canadian and US varsities during April-May' 2007.

Dhankar said that he had visited George Washington University too during his visit abroad. He presented mementoes to the members of the delegation of the occasion.

Krishna K. Banandh from George Washington University threw light on the academic profile of his varsity. Prof. Georges C. St. Laurent extolled upon the frontier areas of Bio-informatics and systems biology where joint research and collaboration is possible. Prof. Georges expressed the desire that joint studies and research on biological potential of herbal medicines and anient Indian medicine system - Ayurveda can be initiated and a joint research centre can be established in this regard. Elisha B. Pulivarti, Executive Director, Maryland India Roundtable Council also spoke on the occasion.

MDU Dean, Academic Affairs Prof. Ishwar Singh, B.K. Behera, Director, Advanced Centre for Bio-technology (ACBT),  S.K. Gakhar (ACBT),  S.N. Mishra (HOD-Bio-Sciences),  J.P. Yadav (Dept. of Bi-Chemistry & Genetics) and  Nasib Singh Gill, (HOD Computer Science) took part in view-exchange during the meeting. Registrar  S.P. Vats, faculty members of Physics Dept. and faculty of Life Sciences were present on the occasion.  Post-Meeting, the delegation from George Washington University visited various departments of M.D. University.
