FATEHGARH SAHIB: Nothing could be more shocking for the residents of Hawara Kalana than news of death sentence to its native Jagtar Singh Hawara in Beant Singh assassination case. His 60 year old mother Narinder Kaur is in state of shock as well.
Media rushed to the village to get a quote from the Hawara's mother who was unaware of death sentence by that time. She was disturbed after hearing about conviction of her son, a family members said,. He also advised media not to reveal her the news of death sentence to Hawara. " She may not be able to bear the tragedy", he added. When some media persons approached Narinder Kaur , she was completely ignorant of the whole scene. “I met him yesterday and he is in high spirits. He wished me a long life and told me to convey his Sat Sri Akal to the village elders”, she said. “I could meet him with my sister in law Sukhdev Kaur for twenty minutes and really felt like bringing him back with me to the village”, said Narinder kaur. Jagtar’s father died in 1991. While the villagers rued that the judiciary has not done justice to Hawara, they claimed that the human bomb Dilawar Singh got his due. “Our friend is innocent and he should not have been treated like this”, claimed Hawara's childhood friends. Jagtar Singh, believed to be a member of the Babbar Khalsa International, a terrorist outfit, was first accused in the murder of a granthi of Chamkaur Sahib Gurdwara in the late 1980s. ‘‘He was later acquitted in the case but by that time he was already in the company of terrorists and since then there has been no coming back,” said a another villagers standing outside his house. |
