CHANDIGARH: Haryana Government had decided to construct three satellite jails at Nuh, Rewari and Panipat districts with a view to keep separate under-trial from the convicts in the State.
This was decided at a meeting which was presided over by the Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda to review the working of Jail Department. Hooda said that the construction work of new jails at Faridabad, Jhajjar and Yamunanagar would be completed by the end of this year. After construction of these district jails, as many as 14,260 prisoners could be accommodated in the State. The Chief Minister directed the Home Secretary that the renovation work of jails should be completed within a stipulated period. He directed them that steps should be taken to make arrangements of separate stay of convicts and under-trial in each jail. He said that the convicts of Rewari and Nuh would be lodged in district jail Gurgaon and the convict of Panipat would be lodged at district jail Karnal. Hooda said that the computerization of jail work and Video Conferencing System should be completed and it would be made operational by the end of November next. He also directed that Gaushalas should be set up at the farm land available at various jails and the first Gaushala should be set up at district jail Karnal farm land as a Pilot Project. Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Home, K.S. Bhoria assured the Chief Minister that the comupterization of jails would be completed within the scheduled time. He apprised the Chief Minister that at present the authorized capacity of all district jails was 10587 against the 12692 prisoners lodged in various district jails as on July 1, 2007 Those who were present in the meeting included Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, M.L.
