Late Beant Singh's son urges Akal Takht not to support Hawara Print E-mail

FATEHGARH SAHIB: Congress MLA from Payal Tej Parkash Singh who is son of former Chief Minister late Beant Singh Thursday said that SGPC and Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti should not support Jagtar Singh Hawara and his associates who have been convicted and given death penality for the assassination of his father.

Talking to media persons at Bassi Pathana after presiding over a function in memory of late Beant Singh organized by former forest minister Dr Harbans Lal, Tej Parkash Singh said that his father had laid down his life to bring peace in Punjab and his father is a martyr in real sense. He said that some statements were issued by SGPC president and Akal Takht Jathedar in favour of Hawara and his associates to provide legal assistance to them, which are not justified. He said that Akal Takht is high temporal seats of Sikhs and it should treat all persons equally. He said that people belong to all religions are in Congress and his party respects all the religion.

He said that Beant Singh's death anniversary function will be held in Chandigarh on August 31 and first time this year it will not be held at Kotli in Payal. He said that senior congress leaders Ambika Soni, Janardhan Diwedi, Shamsher Singh Dullo, and Capt Amarinder Singh have been invited to attend the function.

He criticized Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann for organizing function to hold death anniversary of Dalawar Singh, who worked as human bomb in assignation of Beant Singh.

Earlier, while addressing the function, Tej Parkash Singh paid rich tributes of Beant Singh and appealed the people to follow the path shown of his late father.

Dr Virish Shandilya , president of All India Terrorist Front  demanded to release postal stamp in memory of late Beant Singh . He said demanded to put late Beant Singh picture in Lok Sabha. He said he would soon meet Home Minister of India for fulfillment of these demands. Dr Harbans Lal, former forest minister said that late Beant Singh had made his full contribution in development of Fatehgarh Sahib and made it district in 1992. He said that he will regularly organize functions in memory of late leader.
