CFA face Orissa FA in opener of Administrator's Challenge Cup Print E-mail

CHANDIGARH: The stage is all set for the fifth edition of the Administrator's Challenge Cup All-India Football Tournament for Under-17 being conducted by the Chandigarh Sports Department with an opening match between Orissa Football Association and hosts and state-run Chandigarh Football Academy at the Sector 17 Football Stadium here at 4 p.m.

 

Chandigarh Administrator and Punjab Governor Gen S F Rodrigues will inaugurate the tournament which will conclude on September 9.

As a number of teams have arrived, the organising committee today reviewed the arrangements and last-minute instructions were given for the smooth conduct of the tournament.
Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-Director Sports Inderjit Singh Sandhu said out of 17 teams which have sent their entries, only three are local outfits. Chandigarh Football Association, New Public School Academy and Sanjay Public School Academy are the local teams in the fray.

Joint Director Sports Dr JPS Sidhu said that the teams had been divided the teams into four pools and each pool winners would qualify for the semi-finals. Matches will also be played at the Sector 42 Football Ground.

 Chandigarh Football Academy have been clubbed in Group A with orissa Football Association, Andhra Pradesh Football Association and Delhi Soccer Association.

Punjab Football Association, Chattisgarh Football Association, SAI Kolkata and Mahilpur Football Academy were in group B.

The group C will consist of Mizoram Football Association, New Public School Football Academy (Chandigarh), Haryana Football Association and Jammu and Kashmir Football Association are in group C.

The group D will comprise Daman and Diu Football Association, Sanjay Public School Football Academy, Cantonment Board Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar and Services Sports  Control Board.

The Chandigarh Football Association is deputing technical officials and the tournament has been approved by All India Football Federation.
