Punjab set up district pollution control cells

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government has constituted District Noise Pollution Control Cells (NPCC) in every district in order to check the violation of Noise Control Act in urban and rural areas an effective awareness campaign would be launched in the state to educate the public against the harmful affects of noise pollution.



M.P. Singh IAS Secretary Science & Technology Punjab said that A.D.C (General) of the districts concerned would be incharge of such cell who would take concrete steps coordinating with government, government officials and N.G.Os. It was also decided that keeping in view the Diwali festival NPCCS would launch an awareness campaign at grass root level with the help of printed and electronic media.

M.P Singh also said that school children would also be inspired by these cells to celebrate the festivals free of crackers so that pollution and noise free environment could be maintained. State Local Bodies Department has been directed to install hoardings at public places highlighting the bad effects of noise pollution for the safety of patients, aged and others from destructive effects of noise pollution. They could seek police help in the effective implementation this regard, he added.

It was also decided in the meeting that to make congenial atmosphere for the students and others from noise pollution by the loud speakers at religious enforcement of Sri Akal Takht Sahib edict would also be pursued by NPCCs. Among others  Yogesh Goyal Chairman PPCB, Dr. Sharuti Shukla and department officers were also present in the meeting.
