ROPAR: Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday moved an application in the court of Rekha Mittal district and session judge Ropar to seek permission to open the lockers of former Punjab DGP S.S. Virk who is in judicial custody in a cases of disproportionate assetts and land grab.
The VB had moved application when court was about to rise. The session judge has fixed Sept 27 for hearing the application. Virk an IPS officer of 1972 batch of Maharashtra cadre was arrested by Vigilance Bureau had arrested Virk on September 9 from Delhi and brought to Punjab. VB has charged Virk under Sections 168, 169 (doing business while in service), 216, 218 and 120-B (for harbouring a person wanted by law, giving him a fake identity on basis of false record to screen him from law) and Sections 7,13 (1)(d)(e) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The FIR also accuses the former Punjab DGP of misuse of his official position as “sleeping partner” to oversee working of the marriage palace and the nightclub. The Vigilance puts the total value of properties of Virks at over Rs 100 crore. He has also been accused of helping the Congress party and VB has claimed to have recovered his hand written notes suggesting his political involvement. Virk at present is admitted in PGI Chandigarh where he was admitted a day after his arrest for treatment of high blood pressure. Virk has lockers in atleast three banks. Police is also expected to take him on remand for custodial interogation after his lockers are opened. |
