CHANDIGARH: GGMB College of Rattewal and Welfare Club A emerged winners in the open women and open men categories, respectively in the 6thChallenger Kho-Kho Tournament organised by Chandigarh Kho-Kho Welfare Club at the Government High School ground in Sector 43-A here today.
GGMB College, Rattewal and Khalsa Club of Sector 26 fought a tooth-and-nail fight before the former clinched the issue by a two-point margin (12-10) in the women's final. For the third place, Chandigarh Welfare Club pipped Coaching Centre of Sector 32 in sudden death session which lasted one minute 20 seconds. Welfare Club A team defeated Welfare Club B by 20-17 in the men's open final. Shaheed Bhagat Singh Club beat Khalsa Club by 20-15 to determine the third and fourth positions. Government Middle School, Sector 46 gave outstanding account of themselves as they defeated Government Senior Secondary School of Sector 37 by one turn and one points in the girls Under-14 final. Coaching Centre, Sector 43 outplayed Government High School Dharamgarh by one turn and five points in the boys Under-14 final. The following players were declared the best players of the tournament: Boys U-14: Baljinder Singh (Coaching Centre-43). Girls U-14: Alka (Govt Middle School-46). Women: Naina (Chandigarh Welfare Club). Men:Inderjeet Singh (Chandigarh Welfare Club). Kajheri Sarpanch Kuldeep Singh distributed the prizes. Results: Girls U-14 (semi-finals): Govt Middle School-46 bt Chandigarh Club-35 by 13-10, Govt Senior Secondary School-37 bt DAV Model-15 by 8-7. Final: Govt Middle School-46 bt Govt Senior Secondary School-37 by one innings and one pt. Boys Under-14 (semi-finals): Coaching Centre-43 bt Joseph's Club-44 by one innings and 3 pts, Govt High School Dharamgarh bt Baptist Club by 20-10 pts.
