PATIALA: The working president of Shiromani Akali Dal Sukhbir Singh Badal has promised to have re-look in fee structure of private medical colleges which has been increased by Punjab Government.
This assurance was given to parents of medical students when they have met him on Sunday here. The parents apprised him the conditions of families who have have been facing difficulty to pay the increased fees. The parents also informed Sukhbir that due to increased fee structure, as many over 100 deserving students could not take admission in MBBS. According to parents Sukhbir Singh Badal has given them assurance that he will take out the matter with the chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. The parents apprised Sukhbir that according to the prospectus, Rs 1-lakh fee could be charged from students on the merit list. However, the government fixed Rs 3 lakh per annum fee for management quota seats and Rs 1.15 lakh for government quota seats. By doing so, the government has adopted dual fee structure in merits seats, which is illegal. Parents also apprised Sukhbir that the Supreme Court, in its judgment delivered in the PA Inamdar versus others case, had observed that the fees fixed by the committee once should be binding for a minimum period of three years. However, the government has effected the fee hike just after one year of the submission of the committee report, that is in violation of the Supreme Court orders. Now for this year only, Supreme Court has allowed to fill NRI seats in all categories, hence Colleges will not face any financial crunch for the current year batch. |
