FATEHGARH SAHIB: On the heels of bomb blast in Ludhiana, the robbers in a daylight robbery looted Rs.46 lakh from State Bank of India at Khamano near Ludhiana at gun point, leaving the police clueless.
As per reports, the clean shaven youth, who came in a Zen car, entered the bank situated on crowded Ludhiana-Chandigarh road around 9.20 am and decamped with a bag containing the Rs.46.15 lakh from the bank with in about an half hour of their 'operation'. The robbers entered the bank when Baldev Singh, peon of the bank was busy is dusting after locking the locks of the bank. They knocked that the bank door and requested the peon to open the door on the pretext that they are officials of the local SDM office. When the peon opened the door, they pointed a their gun at him. Later the tied the peon with a rope. After some time the bank Guard Prem Singh came to the bank and they tied him with a rope. A youth started to clean the bank premises to mislead the people. When two customers of the bank- Gurdeep Singh Hawara and Gurpal Singh entered the bank they also tied them with rope. When G.K. Narang, Assistant Manager of the bank entered the bank they also tied them with rope and snatched the bank chest keys from him but they could not open the locks of the chest. After some time Ram Parkash , another Assistant Manager of the bank entered the bank and after taking keys from him they succeed in opening safe of the bank. After receiving the information, Patiala Range IG M.K. Tiwari, Patiala Range DIG P.S. Gill, Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Nilabh Kishore, SAS Nager SSP R.S. Khatra and police officials from CIA staff of Fatehgarh Sahib, SAS Nager and Ludhiana reached on the spot to take stock of situation. Finger print experts and dog squads were pressed into service. The police recorded the statement of the bank officials and other persons. On the statement of the bank Assistant Manger G.K. Narang, the Khamano police has registered a case under sections 392,342,506,34 of the IPC and 25,54,59 of the Arms Act. Though the bank is situated in a crowded area but no one dared to intercept the youths. They are said to have fled towards Ludhiana side after committing robbery. Sources said that the robbery may be committed with the help of an insider. The daylight robbery at the bank has left the police clueless about the identity of the robbers. Investigations could not reveal much, though the police managed to get computer-generated sketches of three robbers in evening . Sources said that the police may announce a cash reward for providing formation about robbers. When contacted Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Nilabh Kishore in late evening he said that the police is throughly investigating the case but still there is no clue about the robbers. |
