FATEHGARH SAHIB: The Punjab police has failed to find any clue in Rs 46 lakh bank robbery at Khamano area of district Fatehgarh Sahib on Wednesday.
Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Nilabh Kishore said that efforts are being made to trace the accused. He said that sketches of three youths, who had committed robbery, would be released soon. Sources said that the police has rounded up some persons in the case. Khamano police station is located only 300 yards away from State Bank of India (SBI), Khamano’s branch where robbery was committed. The SDM office is also situated near to the bank. Unlike the usual cases of dacoities, the accused entered the bank on October 24 without putting any masks on their faces. They were speaking Punjabi. Sources said that the robbers also dared to interact with a customer of the bank and told him that they are qualified but without job so they are doing so. They had small firearms in their hands but did not use them. A senior police office claimed that the incident occurred due to security lapse on the part of the bank authorities. There is possibility of hand of any employee behind the incident. The manner in which the three men carried out the robbery at the SBI branch here has left the police baffled. Bank officials have a lot of explaining to do on as to why keys to the bank premises were in possession of a peon and why the gunman was not in possession of his weapon. Sources said that under the bank rules, suburban branches cannot hold cash over Rs 15 lakh in the vault. The staff clarified that the bank carried out huge transactions every day due to paddy season. Sources said that the police did not seem to buy it. Meanwhile, two power transformers of around Rs 85,000 were stolen from Bena Buland and Badhaltuha village of Amloh sub division of district Fatehgarh Sahib. The Amloh police on the complaint of Punjab State Electricity Board Junior Engineer Rajinder Giri posted at Amloh has registered a case against unidentified persons under section 379,427 of the IPC. Sources said that no arrest has been made in the case. |
