AMRITSAR: A sun of Rs.6.60 lakhs have been stolen from an ATM of Punjab National Bank Putlighar Branch in the city here Thursday.

Confirming the theft SSP Amritsar Kuwar Vijay Partap Singh said that some insider's hand has been suspected in this theft as ATM has not been damaged. Initial investigations reveal that either some employee of the bank or some technician has committed this theft.

SSP said that the crime has been committed while using the password as well as key of the ATM. Only bank officials know the 12 digit password of the ATM. However the keys are lying with the bank manager as well as with the service provider which is Diabold, added SSP.

However,  the hard disk of the CCTV installed in the ATM has also been taken away by the culprits. It is evident from this fact that the culprit is technically fully sound, said SSP.

The Police have started the investigation with the bank officers and technicians and engineers. A case has been registered under section 406, 409 and 380 IPC (Criminal Breach of trust and theft), affirmed SSP.
