PATIALA: A NRI bridegroom and his parents were arrested on the charge of dowry and breach of  trust by the Patiala police here Friday.The girl refused to marry the NRI groom when during marriage ceremoney, his father demanded dowry. 

 

According to Mandeep Singh Sidhu SP City the NRI bridegroom Gurpreet Singh, his father and his mother Harjit Kaur were arrested as they have asked 50 lakhs from Gurbachan Singh father of bride Amitoj Kaur here at Chahal resorts situated on Nabha Road here today. The Civil Lines Police station has registered the case u/s 406, 498-A of IPC and sec ¾ of Dowry Act. 

The bridegroom who is an NRI and by profession he is Doctor in New York USA. The Bride is also MBBS doctor. 

Sidhu said that 'Baraat' has given warm welcome by the family of bride and before proceeding to Gurduwara for the 'Anand Karaj' the father of bridegroom Bhajan Singh asked 50 lakhs from Gurbachan Singh, father of Amitoj Kaur. Gurbacahn Singh pleaded before Bhajan Singh that the amount is too much and he asked for time but Bhajan Singh became angry and said that the 'Anand Karaj' will be performed only after they will received   the said money. This attitude of bridegroom family irked the family of bride and they started consultations the news immediately reached to the bride Amitoj Kaur and she refused to marry Gurpreet Singh. 

After the refusal of Amitoj Kaur the parents of bridegroom got agitated and started using abusive language against bride and their family members. The family of bride too got agitated and one of them has started beating the bridegroom and his father. The police immediately reached on the spot and arrested Gurpreet Singh and his father Bhajan Singh. His other Harjit Kaur was also arrested.
