FATEHGARH SAHIB; The Indira Gandshi Open University( IGNOU), has notified the provision of improvement of marks/grades in their Bachelor's/Master's Degree Programmes. Speaking to media persons, Dr Ashok Sharma Regional Director of IGNOU for Punjab and Chandigarh said Friday that the students, who fall short of 2% marks for securing 1 st Division or 2nd Division only can now apply for improvement.

Sharma informed that the improvement will be permissible only in theory papers and only one opportunity will be given to improve the marks/grade.

Clarifying the terms and conditions for improvement, Dr. Sharma added that students wishing to improve the marks will have to apply within six months from the date of issue of final statement of marks/grade card to them, subject to the condition that their registration for the programme/course being applied for improvement, is valid till the next term-end examination in which they wish to appear for improvement.

After appearing in the examination for improvement, better of the two examinations i.e. marks/grade already awarded and the marks/grade secured in the improvement examination will be considered. Dr. Sharma told that in such cases, the improved marks/grade can be incorporated only on surrender of the statement of marks/Grade Card, Provisional Certificate and Degree Certificate already issued to the student. Also, in case of improvement, the month and year of completion of the programme will be changed to the Term-end examination, in which students appeared for improvement.

Dr. Sharma informed further that students wishing to improve their performance will have to submit their application in the prescribed format alongwith fee @ Rs. 300/- per course during 1st to 30th April for June Term-end Exam, and during 1st to 31st October for December Term-end Exam. Other rules & regulations for improvement will soon appear on the university website www.ignou.ac.in.
