FATEHGARH SAHIB: A mehandi competition on the eve of 'karva chauth ' was held at Gobindgarh Public College, Alour  on Monday. More than 50 girl students enthusiastically participated in this competition. Ritika Sharma of B.B.A-I stood first , Shivani of B.A-III and Rohini of B.Com-II stood second and Pandeep Kaur of B.A-II stood third in the competition.

College principal Dr. Suresh Tandon gave away prizes to winners and motivated the other students to participate in such events.

Tandon said that another feather in the cap of the College is that Sant Ram of B.A-III, Ravi Kumar Nuri and Dev Parkash of B.A-I won silver medals and Ravi Singh of B.A-I won bronze medal at Inter-College Boxing Championship held at Panjab University, Chandigarh. GPC stood Fourth in overall Championship.

Principal Dr. Suresh Tandon congratulated Prof. Davinder Kaur and Prof. Rupinder Singh, Lecturers in Physical Education and winner students in Boxing Competition.

Meanwhile, thousands of people from all over flocked to the annual GPS, Mandi Gobindgarh Carnival cum Diwali Mela to spend the day enjoying the eats, games and treats. The school principal Bahadur Singh informed that nearly sixty stalls provided games of skill and chance, puppet show, music on demand, Rangla Punjab and tambolo. Nokia, Sony Ericson, Stan Autos, Padam Motors, M&M Logan, TVS, Tata Indicom, HCL, Olympic Sports, Biblio and Radhika Creations were among the sponsors.

The pre primary and primary sections, Computer, Fine arts, Home Science depts. and the four houses put up stalls which attracted droves of visitors, eager to win the fabulous prizes on offer

Amritsari kolcha, Ambala chat, tikki, gol guppas and ice cream were some of the mouth watering delicacies up for grabs.

The carnival was opened by Swaranjit Singh Bagli, Chairman of the school managing committee , to loud cheers from one and all. The prize winning ticket number of the raffle draw are: first prize prize 2124 ,Double door refrigerator, second prize 15046 ,21" Colour TV, third prize 5025 ,Microwave oven, fourth prize13790,DVD player, fifth prize 11207 ,Combo drive, sixth prize 13291,Mobile hand set, seventh prize 15765 ,Camera eighth prize 3428 ,Electric cooker, ninth prize 15925, Luggage bag, and tenth prize 974, Coffee mugs set.
