CHANDIGARH: Principal Secretary Home Dr.BC Gupta Tuesday said that the Punjab Government was fully geared to solve the problems of married women who were being harassed the NRI husbands.
This was stated by Dr.Gupta while presiding over a high level meeting to take stock of the situation that has created ripples in our harmonious society. He said that the NRI cell would be further strengthened to redress the grievances of the NRI wives. He pointed out that relevant information would be made available on the web site of the NRI Cell to the advantage of the harried lot. Mr.Gupta revealed that a provision to record all the details of the marriage certificates along with the compulsory registration of the marriage was being seriously being looked into. Speaking on the occasion, Vice President of Indian Council of Social Welfare Mrs.JK Grewal raised the issue of compulsory registration of the marriage, complete details of the marriage certificate and necessary legal assistance to the deserted wives. Anil Malhotra Advocate emphasized the need for setting up of family courts, simplification of the legal procedure of fast track courts and making necessary amendments in the law of marriage and adoption. Later BC Gupta appealed the voluntary organizations to take up the cause of the deserted NRI wives for the quick redressal of their grievances. He however, said that legal remedy was not enough to tackle this problem rather it could be solved at the social level through creating awareness amongst the masses which was the need of the hour. Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Secretary Social Security, Women & Children Development Jagpal Singh Sandhu, Commissioner NRI Affairs AS Chatwal, Special Secretary Home & Justice Kirandeep Singh Bhullar and Additional Secretary NRI Affairs DS Saroya. |
