CHANDIGARH: Chief Minister, Punjab Parkash Singh Badal said on Thuirsday that his Government would soon enact a law for prevention of private printing, publication and distribution of Birs (copies) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib (holiest Sikh religious scripture).
Talking to the media persons here Badal informed, "A consensus in this regard has already been reached at during the cabinet meeting. Continuing further Badal said that to avoid typographical mistakes, solecism, misinterpretation, distortion of the contents of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and above all to maintain its sanctity in the process of printing and publication it has been decided that only Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) should print it. He said that this decision comes in wake of the representations received by Government from the various Sikh Organisations as well as S.G.P.C. that unauthorised private printing, publication, storage and distribution by selling or otherwise the Birs of Sri Guru Granth Sahib is hearting the feelings of Sikh masses thereby violating the Sikh Code of Conduct. Earlier. Badal along with his wife Surinder Kaur Badal paid obeisance at Golden Temple and partook in the Bhog ceremony of Sri Akhand Path held there in for the peace and prosperity of the State. Giani Jaswinder Singh, Head Granthi of Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) honoured the couple with Siropas. Today a number of ladies reached Golden Temple to acquaint Chief Minister, Punjab with their problems, were given a very patient hearing outside Golden Temple Complex by Badal. Badal redressed most of their grievances on the spot and assured earliest disposal of their applications.
