JALANDHAR: A deputy superintendent of police in Punjab has been booked following a complaint by a woman alleging that he sought sexual favours to end an immigration case registered against her.

Darshan Singh was on Thursday booked for harassing the woman and trying to outrage her modesty. He has also been charged with being found naked in an inebriated state and threatening his victim with dire consequences if she refused to bow to his wishes.

Singh, who is posted as a deputy superintendent of police at Moga, about 120 km from here, has been accused of seeking sexual favours from the woman in return for absolving her in an immigration case that was filed earlier this year.

The woman had been accused of cheating a person by charging him money on the pretext of sending him abroad.

She complained to local leaders and social activists about Singh harassing her and they asked her to call him to her house in Jalandhar.

Activists nabbed Singh after he came to her house on Tuesday and removed all his clothes. However, he managed to escape from the house, leaving his two mobile phones and some clothes behind.

Arpit Shukla, the Jalandhar district police chief, said that a report was sent to Punjab's director general of police Thursday after registering a case against the police officer.
