AMRITSAR: District Magistrate of Amritsar Khan Singh Panuu has imposed ban on Private printing, publication and distribution of Birs (Copies) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib till December 8.
Pannu said that ban was imposed since Private printing, publication and distribution of Birs was hurting the feelings of Sikh masses thereby posing a threat to law and order situation in the District. Pannu, said that Birs of Sri Guru Granth Sahib would be published and sold by Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee and by the institutions authorized by SGPC. It may be mentioned here that a month back a Sikh NGO run by Sikh youth publicly thrashed and blackened that face of renowned publishers in the city near the Golden Temple when Publishers were allegedly found while packing of Birs in a bad manners against the Sikh tenets and rituals. After this incident, the situation was quite tense in the city and case was also registered against the publisher. In a Sikh religion Sri Guru Granth Sahib is the living Guru (teacher) and every Sikh give due respect to the Guru Granth Sahib like living Guru, said SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar. |
