CHANDIGARH: With a view to creating awareness on energy efficiency and energy conservation and also use of renewable energy among general public, the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has planned to set up Energy Information Centres (EICs) in the State.
Disclosing this here Thursday Science, Technology and Environment Minister Bikram Singh Majithia Thursday said that EIC would be the source of information and knowledge about various techniques for energy conservation and use of renewable energy for visitors from all sections of the society. He said that the individuals, institutions and industry could take advice from these centers for implementation energy efficiency measures for reducing energy consumption.
It may be recalled Under the Cooperation Programme of the Ministry of Power, Government of India, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), with the Agency for Environment and Energy Management (ADEME), France, the French Delegation from ADEME and IDEMU led by Mr.Boudard Alain, visited different Renewable Energy installations, Energy Parks and also had interaction with College and School children from November 20 to 22 in Punjab to help PEDA to establish these centres. These centres will also have IT based tools for explaining working of different renewable energy systems, investments, economic analysis and contacts of manufacturers and service companies.
Later the visiting French delegation called on Majithia, and discussed EIC activities in France and how similar models can be developed to address the needs of Punjab state.
Responding the quires of the delegation, Majithia informed the delegation that there was lot of scope for energy conservation in homes, offices, commercial establishments and industry. He asked PEDA officers to prepare proposals in consultation with ADEME and BEE, Government of India to establish Energy Information Centers in Punjab.
T.P.S . Sidhu, Chief Executive, PEDA, informed that the action plan has been chalked out to finalize the development of first Information Centre in the State within six months. He also mentioned that ADEME was supporting our counterpart Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency to develop similar EICs in Haryana State.
