Communal clash between Jats, Dalits in Punjab village Print E-mail

FATEHGARH SAHIB: Eight persons were injured in the clash of two communities, Jat Sikhs and Dalits, at village Farour near Khamano town of district Fatehgarh Sahib over a minor issue.Tension is brewing in the area over this incident.

 

After receiving report of the clash, senior police officials including Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Nilabh Kishore reached on spot to control the situation and rushed the injured to Civil Hospital.

As per reports, Beant Singh, who belongs to a Jat family reached at village Farour on late Tuesday evening on his motorcycle. When he stopped his motorcycle in front of his residence it collided with a vehicle of man belong to Sehnsi community (Scheduled Tribe),  which led to exchange of heated words. 

Within minutes, a large number of people belonging to Sehnsi community gheraoed Beant Singh's residence and threw stones on his house.  Someone informed about the incident  to Khamano police.

Beant Singh used his gun and started firing from his house. Initially Khamano police could not cope with the crowd but when police of other areas reached on spot, situation was brought under control.

Three villagers and a police official were injured in firing.  Police rushed four family members of Beant Singh safely to Civil Hospital.

The Khamano police has registered case against persons of both the groups. A case has been registered against Beant Singh and his associates under section 307 of the IPC while another case was registered under section 452 of the IPC against Shiv Kumar and his associates.  A large number of police have been deployed in front of Beant Singh's residence.

 When the media persons visited Beant Singh residence, windowpanes and doors of his house was damaged.  A child was also injured during the clash as a stone hit on his forehead.  The supporters of both the groups are giving different versions and claimed that they have no fault.
