Punjab doctor sentenced to two years jail under PNDT Act |

CHANDIGARH: Virinder Aggarwal CJM Jalandhar Friday awarded two years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs. 5000/- under PNDT act . to Dr. Harjit Singh Kang, prop. of Bagga Hospital Jalandhar He will have to undergo three months more imprisonment in case of failure in depositing the above-mentioned fine.
Dr. Harjit Singh Kang was caught red handed by a special raiding party constituted by the Civil Surgeon Jalandhar on June 8 last by deploying a decoy patient for a sex determination test at his hospital. Lakshmi Kanta Chawla, Health Minister Punjab congratulated the Civil Surgeon Jalandhar and his team for actively pursuing the prosecution of Dr. Harjit Singh Kang. She said that the systematic perusal of this case by the health department with cooperation of police and prosecution agency, the accused doctor has been punished which would prove deterrent to others engaged in this nefarious act. The Minister added that Punjab State had already suffered a lot due to female infanticide and her ministry was working out an institutionalized system to ensure prompt disposal of such criminal cases. She assured that Punjab Government had already been taking adequate steps to check the decline in sex ratio in the state. |
