Farewell to Punjabi varsity VC, five more staffers resign Print E-mail

PATIALA: The Punjabi University Vice Chancellor Swaran Singh Boprai is waiting for the acceptacne of his resignation and yet to relinquish the charge, even as large number of teaching and non-teaching staff bid farewell to him.. 

The farewell that was organised in the arts auditorium in the evening and was addressed by Dr Sucha Singh Gill, former dean academic affairs, officiating registrar S. S. Khaira and by the VC himself.

Addressing the staff, Swarn Singh Boparai said that he had done nothing wrong during his tenure that violated the autonomous status of university. Patting himself for the development of the university, he said that the no parallel could be drawn between what he and his team had achieved in the last 5-years and the achievements made by the previous administrations of the university. 

Hailing the role played by the VC, Dr Sucha Singh Gill, said that the concept of neighbourhood campus that was introduced by Swarn Singh Boparai, had earned commendation of academicians not only in the country but even else where across the world. Officiating registrar S. S. Khaira said that the VC had led the university with a vision that was unmatched. 

Meanwhile five more senior teachers of university holding additional charges of various office today submitted their resignations following the resignation vice chancellor Swarn Singh Boparai a few days back. 

Those who resigned Friday included regional director of neighbourhood campus, Mohali U. C. Singh, M. S. Guram Tecnical advisor, Jagtar Singh, Dean colleges, S. K. Verma dean research and Ashok Dham, incharge placement cell.  

It was for the first time in the history of the Punjabi University that the whole team including the deans submitted their resignations within 72-hours of the resignation by the vice chancellor.

Following resignation Dr B. S. Sandhu, registrar, Dr. H. S. Bhatti, dean students, Dr Sucha Singh Gill, dean of academic affairs and provost Dr Rakesh Mohan along with Dr Jaswinder Singh, dean (alumni), Dr Baldev Singh, who had been appointed professor incharge of examinations and was working as controller of examinations, OSD to VC T. A. Sarma, director of public relations Dr Gurmeet Singh Maan, dean youth welfare Sunita Dhir, and professor  incharge (finance) Dr A. S. chawla had already put in their papers.
