Nawanshehar planning board election to be completed by Dec 10 |

NAWANSHEHAR: The process of electing the 15-member District Planning Committee would be completed by December 10. SDM-cum-Presiding Officer Arshdeep Singh Thind today said a notice in this regard was issued yesterday.
While 12 of the 15 members would be elected through votes, three would be nominated by the state government, he said. Out of the 12, 10 would be elected from amongst zila parishad members while 2 members would be elected from among the municipal councilors of the district, he revealed. The election of members from Zila Parishad would be held here on December 8 at Dilbagh Hall. The entire election process including that of filing of forms, scrutiny, voting and the result would be completed the same day. The members from municipal councils would be elected in similar manner on December 10. After nomination of the three members by the Punjab government, the District Planning Committee would be notified. According to the presiding officer, while the tenure of the members from zila parishad and municipal councils would be subject to their tenure in the respective bodies, those nominated by Punjab government would have tenure of one year. The strength of members in districts with a population of less than 10 lakh had been fixed at 12 while the district with higher population would have more members. DDPO Avtar Singh Bhullar would be Assistant Presiding Officer for the poll. |
