AMRITSAR: The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department Monday imposed a penality of Rs.One crore on a local goldsmith Moihinder Singh from whome the department had on Sunday seized about 24 kg of gold jewellery here.

The department has calculated total worth of Gold Rs. crores on which payment of VAT was evaded.

Assistant excise and taxation commissioner, mobile wing, Rajpal Singh, said Mahinder brought the contraband from Delhi and was nabbed near Beas after specific information. He was coming in an Indica car (PB02-AX-4046) when he was intercepted by the department.
