CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government Tuesday approved the project of installation of sewage treatment plant for Jamalpur, Balloke and Bhattian at a cost of Rs.87.07 crore for posing it to GoI's Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee for appraisal and sanction under implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission (JNNURM).

A decision to this effect was taken at the state level steering committee for the implementation of JNNURM in Punjab chaired by the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here.  

The committee also gave its nod to include the towns of Kharar, Kurali, Banur, Zirakpur, Derrabassi and Nayagaon in the Urban Agglomerations of SAS Nagar (Mohali) since the municipal councils of these towns were contiguous to the growth of Mohali. It may recalled that in pursuance to the request of the state government for inclusion of  SAS Nagar (Mohali) in Urban Agglomerations under JN NURM, the Ministry of Urban Development, GoI had agreed in the principle to include SAS Nagar Mohali agglomerations in the mission cities of Chandigarh.

It was decided in the meeting that the municipal council Mohali in consultation with Greater Area Mohali Development Authority may got prepare a city development plan of the extended areas to be included as a part of City Development Plan (CDP) prepared for Chandigarh city by the municipal corporation Chandigarh city.  The committee also decided to engage the services of a reputed consultancy firm for the preparation of CDP for the extended areas which had requisite experience in the related field. 

Meanwhile, the municipal council Mohali had formulated project proposals to the tune of Rs.360 crore for Mohali town under JNNURM which mainly included local transit system connecting Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula (mono rail/city bus service) besides enhancing water supply both residential and commercial, installation of sewage treatment plant, solid waste management, multi storied parking and widening of major road network.

The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Manoranjan Kalia, MLA Ludhiana Harish Bedi, Chief Secretary RI Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister DS Guru, Principal Secretary Local Government DS Bains, Director Local Government Sameer Kumar and Mayor of Municipal Corporation Ludhiana Hakam Singh Giaspura and Senior Deputy Mayor Parveen Bansal.
