Chandigarh Siti Channel reporter commits suicide Print E-mail

CHANDIGARH: Rekha Punia(35), a reporter with Siti channel at Chandigarh Tuesday died in PGI here where she was admitted on Monday after she consumed poison at here residence in sector 35. She is survived by her husband and a five year old son.

Rekha had left a suicide note in which she has stated that nobody should be held responsible for her death. She has not given any reason but family sources said that she was under depression after death of her brother last year.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad and untimely demise of Rekha Punia. 

In a condolence message, Badal said that Rekha Punia was an outstanding journalist who performed her professional duties with utmost dedication, commitment and sincerity.  

Badal expressed his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and give strength to them to bear this irreparable loss. 

Information & Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia also mourned the death of Siti Channel Reporter Ms. Punia and shared his condolences with the bereaved family.  

Meanwhile, the Media Advisor to Chief Minister Harcharan Bains also condoled the passing away of Punia and said; 'she was a brilliant reporter and committed to ethics of journalism'.
