LUDHIANA: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Saturday inaugurated two days US-Canada Kabbadi Cup Tournament organized by NRIs at Guru Nanak Stadium.
While addressing the sportspersons Badal said that the state Govt. was launching its new Sports policy shortly, under which the sportspersons would be ensured excellent facilities of training and equipment. He said that the Govt. would also suitably reward the players, who would win medals at inter national levels. He said that Kabbadi was the parent game of the state and now had achieved high popularity in the foreign countries.
Appreciating the efforts of NRIs for the promotion of games and development process in state, Badal said that to mobilize the active involvement of Punjabi NRIs in the development process a two days Special Convention of NRIs was being organized on 5th and 6th January 2008 in the state.
The Chief said that keeping in view the deep attachment of NRIs with their birth places, the state government had formulated special plan to encourage them to invest in the state. He said that during the two days NRI convention, a comprehensive program would be chalked out to redress their local level problems at the earliest.
