CHANDIGARH:Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday released the Haryana Energy Conservation Action Plan, for five years 2007-2012, for the State involving an investment of Rs. 18.38 crore to promote energy conservation.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a State Level Seminar on Energy Conservation organized by Haryana Department of Renewable Energy and Bureau of Energy Efficiency of the Central Government, here on Tuesday. While emphasising the need for conservation of energy in a big way, Hooda also stressed the need for adopting a two-pronged strategy including stress on generation of power through non-conventional resources of energy and conservation of power so as to abridge the gap between its demand and supply. He said that today there was deficiency of 9 per cent of electricity as compared to its demand in the country and during peak hours this deficiency reached 13 per cent. By strictly adhering to the energy conservation means, he said, we could save upto 25,000 MW of power in the country. While referring to the scenario of power in Haryana, he regretted that even after 40 years of existence of the State, it’s own generation capacity was merely 1587 MW and it’s total generation was about 4000 MW as against demand of more than 6000 MW. This demand would further cross the mark of 8000 MW by the year 2009. Therefore, the State Government has taken effective steps to meet this growing demand and new power projects were being set up in the State. Hooda, also gave away prizes to the winners of State Level Quiz Competition held on Renewable Energy, announced to double the amount of such awards from this very year so as to encourage the students of conservation of energy. Mr.Hooda congratulated the students for winning prizes and also the winners of the energy conservation awards. He also complimented the Haryana Renewable Energy Department for winning three prizes at national level for its excellent performance in promoting the renewable energy programmes. Deputy Chief Minister, Chander Mohan also complimented the winners of energy conservation awards and prize winners of State Level Quiz Competition on Renewable Energy. He hoped that others too would get inspiration to conserve energy. He said that Haryana was the first State in the country where energy conservation campaign has been launched on a large scale. |
