CHANDIGARH:An all-round performance by Gurdeep Rana (65, 3 for 17) enabled RLCR XI to defeat AZZARO XI by 22 runs in the league match of the second TR Mittal memorial cricket tournament, organized by Chandigarh Sports Club at Government Model Senior Secondary School ground in Sector 32 here on Monday.
RLCR XI won the toss and opted to bat first. But the decision seemed to have backfired as the team lost its first two wickets at a score of just 8 runs in the second over itself. 2 more wickets fell subsequently and the team was struggling at 16 for 4 in 4.1 overs. But then the pair of Vipin Sharma (39) and Gurdeep Rana(65) took control and put up a fifth wicket partnership of 77 runs. The team finally put up a respectable total of 167 runs before getting all out. Manpreet Tinku chipped in with 22 runs to help his team. Pardeep Chibber showed a good bowling performance as he picked up 4 wickets giving away 17 runs in his 5 overs. In reply, AZZARO XI started well with the first wicket partnership of 58 runs but they could not keep up with the required run rate and ended the innings 22 runs short of the target. Gurdeep Rana again performed well as he bowled both the openers to claim his 2 wickets in the innings.
