Vividly, there is a sharp division on opinion over the issues of elections in Pakistan. Some reports indicate a positive correlation between intended mischief of Mushraff in the election process and demise of Benazir.
At present, Pakistani people seems to be, not mentally prepared for the election tussle. In the tribal areas of PAK small army like contingents of the terrorist groups rule over the whims and desires of people over which govt has no control. It does not offer Pakistan a conducive atmosphere for the elections.
There is little to indicate that Mushraff can disarm them in the near future.
It appears that Bush Administration is least interested in a stable Pakistan and desires Pakistan to be next Afghanistan or the Iraq in the making, so that its viability in the region is more intact. Notably India can be a next target for inflicting instability.
Workers of the PPP are in dismay, highly demotivated and disillusioned under the symbolic leaderership. Young Bhutto will take more of six years to become a member of the NATINAL ASSEMBLY. With most of Pakistani people under distress, elections are nothing but a fake as well as mock exercise at this juncture.
Army control of PAK is threatening its existence as regional identities are blaming each other for the present turmoil in the country. Mushraff may opt for a consensus govt. as he is not getting support for his malicious designs to materialize from some of the political outfits.
Political mistakes of the Mushraff are responsible for the present situation in Pakistan. He interfered with the working of media and judiciary in Pakistan. He would have been a winner on the democratic front if he had abstained from damaging the piousness of these organs.
It seems that the coming days in the Pakistani politics are not comfortable for even NAWAJ SHARIFF and people of Pakistan, will, start looking for optional leadership. It can be any day that Mushraff can say good bye to his power steering as things are likely to worsen and he has virtually placed his self interest before his countrymen's feelings, there handing over the control of reigns to fundamentalists, thus paving the way for the direct interference of US in Pakistan.
Indian leadership and diplomacy is cautious for giving political reactions to the ongoing developments in Pakistan , keeping in mind improved economic relations between the two countries in the recent days.
We need to see in India that what is true in economics may not work in politics, hence, an apparent need for INDIA to reflect again upon political ties with the Pakistan as a political policy measure.
