CHANDIGARH: Anirban Nandi of Railways' Sports Promotion Board caused the biggest upset as he shocked top seeded Subhajit Saha of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board in the men's singles well-contested quarter -final by 4-3 in the National Ranking Table Tennis Tournament (North Zone) being conducted by the Haryana Table Tennis Association at the Students Gymnasium of All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Trailing by first two games, Nandi staged a grand rally to record a hard-fought 6-11 9-11 11-9 11-7 8-11 14-12 11-4 verdict in the semi-final encounter.

Harmeet Desai of Gujarat also shocked top seed Nitin V of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board Academy by 11-4 11-5 10-12 11-7 11-7 in the junior boys singles title. The junior girls singles title went to Charvi Kawle C of Maharashtra who defeated second seed Sanya Sehgal of Delhi 2-11 6-11 8-11 12-10 11-4 12-10 11-6 in the final..

Top seeded Mallika Bhandarkar of Maharashtra defeated third seed Charvi Kawle C, also of Maharashtra 10-12 11-7 12-10 11-8 8-11 7-11 11-7 in the sub-junior girls singles final. Earlier, Mallika Bhandarkar ended the winning spree of Meghna of Chandidgarh with 11-7 11-4 11-7 11-2 win in the semi-final round.
