CHANDIGARH: Spirited Eetee Mehga of Gujarat and local girl Ravnoor Kaur are in line for a double crown each in the All India Tennis Association Championship Series as she entered the girls under-14, under-16 singles finals as well as girls under-14 doubles final here.
Sixth seed Eetee Mehta will face talented but unseeded Ravnoor Kaur, an eighth class student of Sacred Heart of Sector 26 for the girls under-16 crown tomorrow at the Lake Sports Complex Synthetic courts. The semi-finals witnessed the ouster of third seed Harnoor Kaur Mann of Chandigarh and second seed Baljinder Kaur of Haryana. Eetee accounted for Harnoor Kaur by 6-2, 6-2 while in-form Ravnoor, who had earlier upset fourth seed Ikttesh Chahal and eighth seed Jaspreet Kaur of Punjab on way to semi-final, gave a tennis lesson to second seed Baljinder Kaur of Haryana whom she beat in straight sets 6-0, 6-4. A final is on cards as they clash tomorrow for the girls under-16 crown. The title-clash in the girls under-14 will be between topseeded Likhita Shetty of Karnataka and second seed Eetee Mehta. Likhita dropped just one game in two sets to silence eighth seed Rimpledeep Kaur of Punjab 6-0, 6-1. Eetee ousted fourth seed Simran Sethi of Delhi 6-3, 6-3. Ravnoor Kaur is also in line for a double. Partnering Bhavika Wadhawan, Ravnoor Kaur defeated Baljinder Kaur of Haryana and Sabatini Ankaraju of Andhra Pradesh 7-6 (1), 7-5. The Bhavika-Ravnoor pair will meet Ikttesh Chahal (Chd) and Pooja A Narayana (Delhi) in the final. Chahal-Pooja beat Vaibhavi Trivedi and Eetee Mehta (Gujarat) 6-4, 6-3. Justifying his top billing, Navneer Kumar of Uttar Pradesh defeated fifth seed and qualifier Naveen Shankar of Chandigarh 6-2, 6-3 in the boys under-16 singles semi-final. However second seed Maninder Singh of Haryana was stunned by third seed Gurinder Singh of Punjab who recorded a 6-3, 6-4 verdict in the second semi-final. Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association trainee third seed Digvijay Singh Naruka will face fourth seed Vilas Khate of National Tennis Academy in the boys under-14 singles final. Digvijay Naruka was extended to three sets by unpretentious Sunny Dahiya of Haryana before Digvijay won by 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. Vilash surprised second seed Kamal Kishore Maderana of Rajasthan by 6-2, 6-1 in the second semi-final round. Results: Boys U-14 singles (semi-finals): Digvijay S.
