NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has arrested expelled Samajwadi Party MP, Atiq Ahmed, in connection with the murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal.
Sources said that Mayawati government had issued a non-bailable warrant against the Phoolpur MP. Samajwadi Party had expelled Ahmed soon after Allahabad police issued his sketches in connection with the murder of Raju Pal. Ahmed has been evading arrest for more than right months now. He had, earlier, alleged that there was a threat to his life from UP Chief Minister Mayawati. He had said that state police was conspiring to eliminate him after taking him into custody. The UP CM, Mayawati had accused the Congress Party leaders of "patronising" Ahmed. The police said that 13 criminal cases are pending against Atiq Ahmed and his brother. Police in its records claim that Atiq and his co-accused younger brother and ex-MLA Khalid Azim alias Ashraf, carrying Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 cash rewards respectively, are wanted by four police stations including Khuldabad, Kareli and Civil Lines.
