CHANDIGARH: After cricket, TV anchering and politics, Navjot Sidhu BJP MP from Amritsar has now decided to enter the celluloid world with his debut Punjabi movie 'Mera Pind, My Homne', also starring Punjabi singer and actor Harbhajan Mann and Kim Verma being produced by noted film director Manmohan Singh.
Coming close on the heels of the super success of his recent production Mitti Wajaan Maardi, starring noted Punjabi singer Harbhajan Mann, Manmohan Singh's latest movie 'Mera Pind-My Home' will cast Navjot Singh Sidhu in a major role for the first time ever. An enthusiastic Sidhu on Tuesday addressing a joint press conference with the lead star cast of 'Mera Pind-My Home' here Tuesday said that he had earlier turned down many offers including to work with Akshey Kumar in Singh is King. But the movie he has noiw signed is very close to his heart, he announced. Director and cinematographer Manmohan Singh informed that the movie will be a joint production of AD Labs and Punj-Aab Movies with Harbhajan Mann in the lead role along with Navjot Singh Sidhu as a co star. Unveiling the details Manmohan Singh said that the production which would be primarily based upon the concerns and hardships being faced by villagers in Punjab will have some of themost experienced of Punjabi actors like Gugu Gill, Kimi Verma,Sarabjit Mangat, Deep Dhillon, Navneet Nishaan, Sheeba Bhakri, Rana Ranbir, Gurpreet Ghuggi and Darshan Aulakh in the reckoning. Lyrics by Babu Singh Mann, Music is by Babloo Mahendru, and Dialogue by Amrik Gill. Mera Pind-My Home, as the name itself suggests, is essentially a film woven around the plot and backdrop of a Punjabi village with its typical characters and their own set of challenging and trying circumstances which would be conveyed cinematically, informed Manmohan Singh. However, contrary to the underlying NRI themes of our earlier production this time the film will aim to send out a clear cut message to Punjabis who are some how seen to be laid back and lethargic in their approach when it comes to working for their own land and people Back here in Punjab, remarked Singh. The idea is to make argeted Punjabi audiences realize the importance of being entrepreneur in your own land rather than showing their extraordinary entrepreneurship in far off lands in the west where Punjabis are touted to be fairly successful and hardworking, an impression which belies the visible reality back home, added Singh. Sidhu said While he, being a Punjabi can relate to his character in the film more emphatically than anyone else, it will still be a learning experience with a seasoned Director like Manmohan and Harbhajan Mann. He said that he found cinema as most powerful media to reach to people after Politics and cricket. Replying to questions he said that being MP he would strongly take up the case against piracy of Punjab films and songs. Harbhajan Mann, the lead actor of Mera Pind-My Home said that after the success of Mitti Wajaan Maardi, Asaan Nu Mann Watnaan Da, Jee Aaayaan Nu, Yaaran Naal Baharaan and Dil Apna Punjabi, it has become a way with Manmohan ji to feel the pulse of Punjabi audiences and Mera Pind-My Home will hopefully live up to that critical parameter. |
