Punjab police to formulate five years strategic police plan |

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Police has decided to formulate a five year strategic police plan and annual police plan as envisaged in the new Punjab Police Act-2007 for a systematic modernisation and upgradation of the present infrastructure with a special emphasis on identifying police priorities based on inputs to be sent by district SSsP in consultation with public.
Presiding over a monthly crime review meeting held here on Wednesday, Punjab DGP N.P.S. Aulakh said that the Government of India had already chalked out an ambitious plan of Rs 2000/- crore for the next five years for providing financial support to the states to upgrade their police infrastructure and it was in addition to the already existing modernization plan of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The DGP said that to ensure proper and phase wise upgradation of the infrastructure, it becomes imperative to prepare a perspective plan for five years by listing year wise priorities of the state police. He revealed that Rs.10 Lac grant had already been received for up gradation of District Ludhiana Police Control Room and the State Police has decided to upgrade such police control rooms in other districts also. The DGP also sought suggestions from district police chiefs regarding any change in the proposed Punjab Prevention of Human Trafficking Act-2008 which had already been put on state police website www.punjabpolice.org. The DGP stressed on the need to have a close look on the activities of ex-terrorist, who were either out on bail or acquitted, as in the recent past, the role of such elements had keen noticed in the sporadic incidents of terrorism taken place in the state. He also directed them to revive the traditional "Zail" (Beat) system of policing by assigning specific areas to the field officials to keep watch on all types of activities taking place there. The DGP further directed the SSsP to depute a gazzetted officer for the effective physical checking of all gunmen and their arms attached with protectees and in case of absence or any laxity, stern action should be taken immediately and a fortnightly report should be sent to the ADGP/Security. To check the increase in crimes like dacoity & snatching, the DGP urged the SSsP to work out intra- district as also inter-district coordination to trace the suspects as they were habitual offenders, who keeps on committing such crimes in different areas. The DGP also cautioned the field officers regarding incidents of firing taking place in marriage palaces and to ensure that all the marriage palaces in their respective areas should display warning against the use of fire arms in their premises and in case of any violation, an appropriate action should be taken in form of initiating proceedings for cancellation of the firearm license |
